The Great Plains Laboratory holds outreaches in cities all over the United States. These outreaches provide an opportunity for parents to meet with a DAN! Doctor, and get started with a comprehensive lab panel specifically tailored to issues affecting autistic-spectrum and ADHD kids.
Dr. Nicola spends 30 minutes with each family, gathering information and explaining the testing procedure. For some patients, this may be their first exposure to biomedical testing, for others, testing can be used to evaluate treatment protocols that have already been initiated.
The majority of outreaches have a Great Plains phlebotomist on-site, so blood can be drawn that same day. Some of the test kits require parents to collect urine and stool samples at home and send them to the lab. When all the results come in to Dr. Nicola’s office, her office staff will contact parents to schedule a follow-up lab review. Dr. Nicola then explains all the findings of the lab testing and develops a treatment plan. Follow-ups are done by telephone.

Please note: as a doctor participating in a Great Plains Outreach Clinic, Dr. Nicola is performing her duties as a health consultant regarding diagnostic testing and biomedical therapeutic options for children suffering with autistic-spectrum disorders. She is not diagnosing illness or disease, nor is she providing medical treatment for children during the consultation visit at the outreach itself.
